Our research seeks to determine how plant detrital inputs, from above- and below-ground sources, influence interactions among soil microbes and soil biogeochemical processes to regulate temperate forest soil organic matter accumulation and loss. Information from this experiment and from the network of DIRT sites will help us asses the potential for long-term soil carbon storage in the face of global climate change.
