KEY TO TREATMENTS AND ABBREVIATIONS

 

Harvard Forest DIRT Plots (Abbreviation: HF)

 

Treatment	Abbreviation	Description
Double litter	2X	Receives ambient above-ground litter plus litter from OX plot
No litter	X	Above-ground litter inputs are excluded and are added to 2X plot
No roots	T	Root inputs are excluded by means of lined trench
No inputs	TOX	Combination of NO LITTER and NO ROOTS treatments
O/A-less	O/A-	O and A horizons initially replaced with B horizon material
Control	C	Receives normal above- and below-ground inputs
