Harvard Forest DIRT plots Root weight data from soils collected in November 1991 Oea: Sample consists of entire depth of Oea horizon collected in 225 cm2 area. Roots were separated into categories of fine tree roots, woody tree roots, and tubers. Tubers consist mainly of Mianthemum canadense (Canada mayflower). 0-10 cm: sample core was 5.12 cm diameter by 10 cm length. Surface area of core = 20.58 cm2 Sample categories are fine tree roots, woody tree roots, and herbaceous roots. 10-15 cm: sample core was 5.12 cm diameter by 5 cm length. Surface area of core = 20.58 cm2 Sample categories are fine tree roots, woody tree roots, and "other". Data is reported here as kg oven-dry (70 deg. C) root mass per ha.
